Men of Dignity: King Sober House is sober living for men in Worcester, Massachusetts, with 31 beds on King Street, more than any other Worcester home in the Vanderburgh network. Twenty-nine beds are in shared rooms and two are private. Rooms come fully furnished, and the house pairs historic character with updates: communal kitchens, a private yard, laundry, air conditioning and free WiFi. Men of Dignity operates King Street along with two other Worcester men's houses, Men of Dignity: Wellington Sober House and Men of Dignity: Circuit Ave Sober House, and the expectations are the same at all three. Life in Sober Living: Structure and Peer Support
King Street is the largest of the three Men of Dignity houses in Worcester, with thirty-one men under one roof. At that size, the house has its own small recovery community: men at every stage, from the first week to the last month before moving on. Newer guests learn as much from the men a few months ahead of them as from the rules, and that is how the house is meant to work.
Guests keep a weekly rhythm of house meetings, recovery meetings, work or school, and a share of the chores. Curfew at King Street is 10 PM or 11 PM, by night of the week. A House Mentor lives at King Street, and any guest can be tested for drugs or alcohol at random. Operator Noel Dennis wants every guest ready for independent living, some of them for the first time in their lives.

King Street is in the Piedmont section of Main South, a dense neighborhood southwest of downtown Worcester. A grocery store on May Street is about 0.2 miles away, a 4-minute walk. Family Health Center of Worcester is about 0.3 miles, roughly 6 minutes, and Oread Castle Park is about the same. Main Street is about 0.5 miles away, close to a 10-minute walk, with WRTA Routes 19 and 27. The MassHire career center is about 0.8 miles, around 15 minutes, and Everyday Miracles is about a mile, a 20-minute walk.

The nearest clinic is Family Health Center of Worcester on Queen Street, which provides primary care, dental and behavioral health services whether or not a patient can pay. Spectrum Health Systems at 1023 Main Street opens early for outpatient counseling and medication for substance use disorders. Emergency care is at UMass Memorial Medical Center, which has emergency departments on its University and Memorial campuses.
Community and quality of life
At the MassHire Central Career Center on Main Street, guests can get help with job searches, interview preparation and training, and use free computers and printers. Worcester Regional Transit Authority buses on Main Street run both toward downtown and out to Webster Square.
Recovery centers and community events
Everyday Miracles Peer Recovery Support Center is a free downtown center where every group and activity is led by peers. Men can join recovery groups, social events or volunteer work there.

Ways to Pay for Sober Living in Worcester
Most guests pay for sober living themselves, weekly or monthly. Rent is not currently covered by insurance or state subsidy. There are still more ways to cover it than most people expect, and the three below are the ones that come up most often. If money is the only thing standing between you and a bed, say so on the application. We would rather have that conversation than lose you to it.
Private Pay
Paying yourself is the most common route. Rent is all-inclusive: utilities, WiFi, laundry and urine screening all come out of the weekly rate, so there is no second bill to plan around. Most guests cover it from wages, and the house schedule is built to make that possible.
Family Support
Families often cover the first few weeks while a guest gets back to work. That is a normal way to start, and nobody here will treat it as unusual. A parent, partner or sibling can pay the deposit and rent directly, and we will walk them through the house rules, the schedule, and what to expect in the first month.
One thing to be clear about: the agreement is with the guest, not with the family.
Grants & Scholarships
Some states fund recovery housing directly, through scholarships, bed subsidies, or reentry grants run by state agencies and nonprofits. The money is limited and the programs change, so ask early instead of assuming there is nothing. Put it on your application if you need help with funding.
