About Men of Dignity: Circuit Ave Sober House

Men of Dignity: Circuit Ave Sober House is sober living for men in Worcester, Massachusetts, in a restored historic home with a wraparound porch and a turret on Circuit Avenue East. It holds 22 residents in furnished bedrooms, with shared bathrooms spread across several floors. Men of Dignity opened it in late 2025 for men coming out of treatment or incarceration. The common rooms are big enough for house meetings and shared meals, a yard gives guests a place outdoors, and free WiFi and laundry are included.

Men of Dignity runs Circuit Avenue on the same online portal it uses at its other Worcester houses, so meeting attendance, overnight requests, payments and maintenance all go through one system. The house is certified and part of the Vanderburgh Sober Living network. A House Mentor lives in the home, and guests keep a weekly house meeting, a curfew and random screening. Men moving within the organization will find the same expectations at Men of Dignity: King Sober House and Men of Dignity: Wellington Sober House.

Life in Sober Living: Structure and Peer Support

Circuit Ave is the newest of the three Men of Dignity houses in Worcester, opened in late 2025 for men coming out of treatment or incarceration. The bedrooms are furnished, the common rooms are big enough for house meetings and shared meals, and the yard gives guests somewhere to get outside. The house is a restored historic home with a wraparound porch, and the men who live there share the work of keeping it.

A House Mentor lives in the home and is the first call for day-to-day questions and coaching. Guests keep a curfew, attend regular house meetings, and are screened for drugs and alcohol at random; the cost of urine screening is in the rent. Noel Dennis, who runs Men of Dignity, wants guests making their own decisions, so the early weeks build toward running your own life rather than following orders.

Recovery Resources in Worcester

Around Men of Dignity: Circuit Ave Sober House

Circuit Avenue East is a residential street in Worcester's Columbus Park neighborhood, on the southwest side of the city. Columbus Park itself is about 0.4 miles away, roughly an 8-minute walk, and Coes Park is only a little farther. A grocery store at 50 Mill Street is about 0.7 miles on foot, around 15 minutes. Spectrum's outpatient clinic on Main Street is about 0.9 miles away, close to an 18-minute walk. WRTA Route 7 runs along Mill Street, so downtown is a bus ride rather than a long walk.

Clinical and outpatient services

Spectrum Health Systems at 1023 Main Street offers outpatient counseling and medication for substance use disorders, including methadone, naltrexone and buprenorphine. Family Health Center of Worcester on Queen Street provides primary care, dental and behavioral health care regardless of a patient's ability to pay. For emergencies, UMass Memorial Medical Center runs emergency departments at its University and Memorial campuses and also offers outpatient mental health services.

Peer support and fellowship groups

Worcester Area Intergroup publishes the local AA meeting list and staffs a 24-hour HALTline at (508) 752-9000. Meetings run from early morning into the evening across the city, so a man working a day shift can still find one that fits.

Recovery centers and community events

Everyday Miracles Peer Recovery Support Center at 25 Pleasant Street is led by people with lived experience of addiction, either their own or a family member's. Its recovery groups, social events, volunteer work and computer access are all free.

Community and quality of life

The MassHire Central Career Center at 554 Main Street, across from the Hanover Theatre, helps with resumes, job searches, career counseling and training. The Worcester Regional Transit Authority connects the southwest neighborhoods to downtown, and the green space around Columbus Park and Coes Park makes it easy to get outside after work.

Ways to Pay for Sober Living in Worcester

Most guests pay for sober living themselves, week by week. Rent is not currently covered by insurance or state subsidy. There are still more ways to cover it than most people expect, and the three below are the ones that come up most often. If money is the only thing standing between you and a bed, say so on the application. We would rather have that conversation than lose you to it.

Private Pay

Paying yourself is the most common route. Utilities, Wi-Fi and urine screening all come out of the weekly rate, so the only other cost to plan for is coin-operated laundry. Most guests cover rent from wages, and the house schedule is built to make that possible.

Family Support

Families often cover the first few weeks while a guest gets back to work. That is a normal way to start, and nobody here will treat it as unusual. A parent, partner or sibling can pay the deposit and rent directly, and we will walk them through the house rules, the schedule, and what to expect in the first month.

One thing to be clear about: the agreement is with the guest, not with the family.

Grants & Scholarships

Some states fund recovery housing directly, through scholarships, bed subsidies, or reentry grants run by state agencies and nonprofits. The money is limited and the programs change, so ask early instead of assuming there is nothing. Put it on your application if you need help with funding.
