Ongoing Furniture Drive: Furnish Hope for Recovery!
VSL is running an ongoing furniture drive to help furnish and equip our recovery homes—creating comfortable, welcoming spaces for individuals on their journey to recovery. Your furniture donations will make a tangible difference in the lives of the men and women we serve. Below is everything you need to know about how to contribute to this important cause.
What Types of Items Are Needed?
Our recovery homes rely on a range of donations to create safe, welcoming, and functional spaces for the men and women we serve. Below is a breakdown of furniture, appliances, building materials, and household items that will help meet the needs of our residents. Items of critical need are highlighted in orange.
Note: Items should be in good, clean condition without major damage or wear.
Furniture
We accept lightly used household furniture in good, clean, and usable condition. Below is a chart of the types of furniture we are currently accepting:

Dressers (All Sizes) | Must be in good shape, free from damage, and suitable for immediate use. No broken drawers or major wear. |
Twin & Twin XL Beds | Sturdy bed frames only. We use twin and twin XL beds exclusively—other sizes cannot be accepted. |
Twin & Twin XL Mattresses | Mattresses must be brand new. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any used mattresses due to hygiene and safety standards. |
Twin & Twin XL Bedding | Includes sheets, comforters, and pillowcases. Bedding should be clean and in good condition to ensure comfort for residents. |
Sofas & Armchairs | Comfortable, lightly used seating for common areas. Must be clean, in good shape, and free of tears or significant wear. |
Sitting Chairs | Sturdy, clean chairs for individual seating in shared spaces. Suitable for use in bedrooms or communal areas. |
Nightstands | Small bedside tables in good condition, free from major damage, and suitable for personal use by residents. |
Kitchen & Dining Tables | Sturdy dining tables that can accommodate group meals, free from structural issues or major surface damage. |
Dining Chairs | Solid, sturdy chairs to accompany dining tables. Must be free from cracks, breaks, or significant wear. |
Bookshelves | Bookshelves in good condition, without significant damage, for storage of books and personal items in shared spaces or bedrooms. |
Coffee Tables & End Tables | Small tables in good condition for living areas. These should be functional and free of major cosmetic or structural damage. |
Home Décor | Rugs, lamps, curtains, blinds, and wall art are welcome if they are clean and in good condition. |
Appliances
We have a growing need for household appliances to equip our recovery homes and support daily living. Below is a list of the types of appliances we can accept.

Refrigerators | Must be fully functional and in good working condition. Suitable for daily use by residents. |
Stoves | We accept electric or gas stoves that are fully operational and free of major damage. |
Microwaves | Small to medium-sized microwaves that are clean and fully functional. |
Chest Freezers | Used to store bulk food. Freezers should be in good working order. |
Small Kitchen Appliances | Blenders, toasters, coffee makers, and other small appliances that are clean and in working condition. |
Clothes Washers & Dryers | We accept both gas and electric washers and dryers. These should be in good working condition and suitable for use by multiple residents. |
Lawn Mowers | Push or electric lawn mowers to help maintain outdoor spaces. Must be in working condition. |
Weed Wackers & Hedge Trimmers | Equipment to help maintain outdoor areas. We accept both gas and electric models in good working order. |
Building Materials
As we expand and renovate our recovery homes, we also need building materials to support construction and repair projects. Below is a list of the most needed materials.

LED Light Fixtures | We are replacing old lights with energy-efficient LED light fixtures and welcome these donations. |
Framing Timber & Drywall | Basic construction materials such as framing timber, drywall, and other essential building supplies. |
Construction Tools | Any extra construction tools you have, such as hammers, saws, or drills, will be greatly appreciated. |
Household Items
To fully equip our homes, we also accept household items that contribute to daily living and upkeep. Below is a list of items we can accept.

Plates, Cups, & Flatware | Sets of dishes, cups, and flatware (forks, knives, spoons) for group meals and daily use. |
Vacuums, Brooms, & Cleaning Supplies | Cleaning tools and supplies in good condition. Functional vacuums are especially helpful. |
Outdoor Tools | Snow shovels, rakes, and other tools for outdoor upkeep during different seasons. |
Home Décor | Rugs, welcome mats, and other small home décor items like lamps or wall art that can make spaces feel welcoming. |

Drop-Off Locations
We offer several drop-off locations for your convenience. All furniture donations must be coordinated in advance, and if our main office in Webster, Massachusetts, is not convenient for you, we will provide the specific address of one of our alternative locations.

Pickup Service
We offer pickup services for critical need items within a 2-hour drive of Webster, Massachusetts. Please note that pickups are limited to critical items like beds, dressers, and large appliances.
Pickup requests must be coordinated in advance, and while we strive to accommodate as many donations as possible, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to pick up all items.

Donations may be tax deducible!
Your generosity not only benefits our residents but can also help you at tax time. The Vanderburgh Foundation Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, which means your donations may qualify for a tax deduction under IRS regulations.
Donations of household goods that are in “good” condition or better are entitled to a tax deduction, according to Federal law. The Internal Revenue Service requires that all charitable donations be itemized and valued. It’s a good idea to check with your accountant or read up on the rules before you file you return.
